Austin Dog Rescue is made up purely of volunteers. Each dog is sheltered within a home in the Austin area. As such, there is no physical shelter to visit the dog at. If you think you may be interested in a particular dog now or in the future, please fill out an application form. People with approved application forms are prioritized over people who haven’t yet applied.

Vienna (UPDATED!)

Minimum Donation: $190 190 $

Vienna will capture your heart. True to her breed, she's a tiny dog with a big personality. Her bold confidence is charming, her dear attentiveness is heart-warming and her facial and verbal expressions are pure comedic entertainment. Vienna has a calm and easy-going demeanor around the house. She is house-trained and sleeps through the night in her crate. She shares her foster home with another small female Chihuahua-mix and a female cat. Vienna is excellent with both of her paw pals and assumes the motherly role of the pack. She bonds well with one human parent.

Vienna exhibits guarding of her food and of her chosen human companion. She is also uneasy with hands coming at her face and head. When she feels threatened in any of these areas, she will growl and snap. It's always a reactive warning; she is not aggressively intending to bite (all her top teeth were removed due to dental disease). She is working with her foster parent to de-condition these fear-based triggers, and needs a patient and understanding home that will continue to work on these behaviors with her.

Outdoors, Vienna is upbeat! Her personality shines when she's on the go - frolicking in the gardens, jogging through the grass, and walking around the neighborhood. She is responsive to being called and walks well on leash. She is obese and has a hard time walking long distances, especially in the Texas summer heat. She needs to lose 3-4 pounds and is looking for a home where she'll be taken for at least 2 daily walks (morning and evening) as well as kept on a restricted weight loss diet.

Vienna has brought untold vibrancy and love into her foster home. She would do best in a forever home that can provide her with attention, training and continue to work on getting her to a healthy weight. A home with another dog or cat would be preferable. No children, please.
