Austin Dog Rescue is made up purely of volunteers. Each dog is sheltered within a home in the Austin area. As such, there is no physical shelter to visit the dog at. If you think you may be interested in a particular dog now or in the future, please fill out an application form. People with approved application forms are prioritized over people who haven’t yet applied.
Anderson! Anderson! Anderson!
Anderson is a sweet, goofy, and energetic one-year old male Labrador retriever mix. Do you want to go for a walk? Anderson will grab the leash for you. Are you headed to the kitchen? So is he! Want to throw a ball? He’s ready!
Anderson likes to spend time outside with people, and he needs to walk or exercise several miles a day; he’s extremely serious about his walks. He isn’t leash trained yet, but he’s treat motivated and he’s excellent with sit, down, and take, and he's learning leave it and drop it. After all that walking, he still has the energy to learn and play. He’s used to napping and sleeping in his crate, and he’s very willing to go in when there are treats involved. He’s learning to go in his crate on command, and he hasn’t had any accidents in his crate and only one “on purpose” (marking a wall) in the house!
UPDATE: Anderson has made tremendous progress! He's mastered his basic commands (sit, stay, take, drop it, come, down, leave it), and he's much calmer. He's learned to be much less pushy with his size and weight and he seldom "borrows" socks now. He loves other dogs and is an extremely playful foster brother. Anderson can catch a ball, but prefers to retrieve frisbees when his foster brother catches them. He's a big fan of giving his foster mom a chew toy to hold while he gnaws on it, and if she doesn't hold it correctly, then he's patient and rearranges her hands until she holds the toy correctly. He's big on second, third, and fourth chances to hold his toy properly. Anderson is an all around incredibly sweet and silly boy.
