Austin Dog Rescue is made up purely of volunteers. Each dog is sheltered within a home in the Austin area. As such, there is no physical shelter to visit the dog at. If you think you may be interested in a particular dog now or in the future, please fill out an application form. People with approved application forms are prioritized over people who haven’t yet applied.
Anderson! Anderson! Anderson!
Anderson is a sweet, goofy, and energetic one-year old male Labrador retriever mix. Do you want to go for a walk? Anderson will grab the leash for you. Are you headed to the kitchen? So is he! Want to throw a ball? He’s ready!
Anderson likes to spend time outside with people, and he needs to walk or exercise several miles a day; he’s extremely serious about his walks. He isn’t leash trained yet, but he’s treat motivated and he’s excellent with sit, down, and take, and he's learning leave it and drop it. After all that walking, he still has the energy to learn and play. He’s used to napping and sleeping in his crate, and he’s very willing to go in when there are treats involved. He’s learning to go in his crate on command, and he hasn’t had any accidents in his crate and only one “on purpose” (marking a wall) in the house!
He has strong Labrador retriever behavioral traits, including “borrowing” things and being mouthy. He’s learning not to jump when he gets excited and not to put people’s hands or feet in his mouth. He's a big guy, so he needs to be in a home with older children. He has some separation anxiety, so he’ll bark and whine for a little while when he’s left alone.
Anderson is sweet and silly and has recently discovered the joy of playing fetch. Are you ready to play fetch with Anderson?
