Foster Home Program
PLEASE READ all of the FOLLOWING INFORMATION
BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR FOSTER APPLICATION
How does the ADR foster home program work?
Once we have a confirmed foster home we immediately save a dog. No dog is able to be saved unless we have a place to put them. Each dog is evaluated based on basic temperament qualities the average dog owner looks for. We focus on the dogs that are overwhelmed and are not doing well in a shelter setting. Those that are very easily overlooked by potential shelter adopters but once out are happy, well adjusted, happy dogs.
We evaluate dogs to see if they are good with other dogs. Once we confirm on the dog each one receives an exam by a veterinarian, vaccinations, de-worming, spayed or neutered and tested for heartworms. After the dog has been medically checked out then it is ready for their foster home. The Executive Director has the final say on any dog accepted into the care of Austin Dog Rescue.
What dogs do you accept into ADR?
ADR works with all breeds and sizes and focuses primarily on mixed breed dogs of all weights, sizes and ages. We occassionally take pure bred dogs as long as we have a foster home that is experienced with that breed. The average weight of the dogs we save range from 30 - 100 pounds. We take into consideration the foster home that is open and choose a dog that will work best in that particular home. We look for dogs that are easily placed in adoptive homes with average dog handling experience. Though we do a thorough assessment, we cannot guarantee the behavior of any dog.
What support do I get as a foster home?
ADR provides their foster caregivers with 24/7 hands on, email and phone support. We are also have trainers, vetrinarians and the experience of other foster caregivers who are always happy to help with questions.
We provide all equipment, monthly prevenatives and pay for ALL approved veterinary care.
