Success Stories 2007

Austin (Howdy)

austin-howdy2007Austin is awesome and so smart.  He is still pretty scared of people but we socialize him at every opportunity and he is getting better.  Funny thing is, if a person has a dog, he could care less about being scared of them.   He absolutely loves dogs and thinks our cats are there for his personal entertainment.  He has really come around in 5 months.  We have a place in Port Aransas so he has become quite the little surf swimmer and loves swimming after the tennis ball.   We think he might be part raccoon the way he uses his paws.  Almost human like.

We rescued a dog from Heart of Texas lab that they pulled from town lake.  We named him Howdy.  He and Austin are in love.  He’s 4 months and Austin thinks we are the coolest mommies for buying him Howdy for Christmas.  We’ll head down to the beach for six days after Christmas.  It is truly Austin’s fav place in the world. A few pics from 2 weeks ago at the beach.  We highly recommend your rescue group to everyone we know.  We appreciate all that you do and for bringing Austin to us.  He’s a good boy.

Happy Holidays,
Kay and Julie, Austin and Howdy

Booker

booker2006Booker is doing great! His name now is Sirus, after the Egyptian guide Osirus, whom he looks very much like. I take him to the dog park on Riverside about 4 ot 5 times a week in the mornings, I've made friends with the other regulars, as has he, so we just love that place. This is what he looks like as of this morning. He's almost 50 pounds now, and we just love him to death.

Buster

buster2007Hi Joyce, How are you? Buster here. I wanted to write you and tell you that I had a really good Christmas. My humans got me a red dot to lay on and I really like it. I also got three new toys. My favorite is the squeaky squirrel. It does not have ears, a nose, eyes or a mouth any more, which suits me just fine because I really don't like those fuzzy little animals. They make me very mad when they are in one of my trees. I also got a "cranky kitty" and a new ball. I am going to the dog park alot and I really like chasing dogs my size and smaller, especially the really little Chew-wow-ah dogs that seem to like to play with me too. When a big dog chases me you know what I do? I hide under a picnic bench and show my teeth to the big dog, then my teeth scare them and they leave me alone. I hide behind a human sometimes too. I have been to the vet and I weigh 30 pounds now and they always want to stick a needle into me but you know what? I am a very good boy and I don't feel much pain so when I hit my head on the park bench at the dog park it scares my humans but it never hurts. My vet told me I will probably be between 45 and 50 pounds when I grow up all the way. My humans (Carol & Jimmy) still want to find another dog and they are talking about a dog about the size of a Jack Russell Terrier. Not a pure bread but a mutt like me because my humans say that mutts like me make the sweetest dogs. I had a bath yesterday after the dog park at the self help dog bath place on Lamar. My humans really liked doing it because they told me I stunk kind of bad from all the dog slobber on me from the dog park. I don't know about that but I do know I don't really like taking a bath or having my nails clipped. I wasn't a bad boy though - I did feel sad when I was getting wet. My ear that used to flop over does not flop over any more. I don't know why.

I hope you had a good holiday and that soon I will have a little girl dog playmate. Could you find me one?

Love, Buster

P.s., There is a picture of me laying on my new red dot. Did I tell you I really like it?

Camber

camberI took some pictures of Camber who is now Hoover.  He is a bonafide farm dog and we love him so much.  Had to get a haircut to beat the heat – too much underwool in his coat and he was a burr magnet.  He happily swims several times a week and is a great companion (any one notice the webbed feet?  Really!).   What an excitable puppy he is.  He ventures maybe a few feet from me if he is not exploring or retrieving something.  Had to get a remote training device to deter the urge to play with the “chicken-balls” but that was handled before it got out of hand.  Just the puppy in him.  Nice thing with the device – it has a waterproof pager that vibrates to call.  Great when he is out of sight when we are in the brush and he is investigating.  He will be just fine.

Spice is doing great, too.  Settling down nicely with my sister but I see her several times a day since she is just across the street.  She gets along famously with the other dog and they are now buddies, too.

Carly (Harmonie)

harmonie-carlyCarly has been here a week now and I thought I would give you an update.  She plays plays plays most of the time, resting for about 30 minutes in between playing.  This girl really needed lots of space and a playmate.  Their favorite game is "keep away", which involves taunting one another with a favored object and running like crazy.  Today, for the first time, I left the back gate open so that they could extend their play area in to the far backyard, and they spent a long time just exploring.  The two are always together, and share space pretty well unless a chew bone is introduced.  Carly stands up for herself, and both are equally matched in temperment.

She had one peepee accident on the rug the first day.  I showed her the doggy door, and there hasn't been an accident since.  She sleeps all night on the floor at the foot of my bed.  She is very smart and responds very well to rewards.  She sits, lays down, shakes hands, comes when called, and retrieves.  We are working on leash walking, but I expect that to come along if we practice more.  I want to go through an obedience class with her, and I'm thinking she would love chasing a frisbee, but I don't want her to do major jumping stuff until her joints are matured.  She has problems getting up in the hind legs when lying down, but this is getting better.  I think she just needed lots of exercise to build muscle.

Carly saw her first deer a couple of days ago and barked a lot, but didn't try to jump the fence, which pleases me tremendously!  She chases the cats, but is getting better about that.  I think the bigger cat, Pete, is beginning to stand her ground, which is what needs to happen.

She is such a sweet girl, and very good with children.  I'm wondering if she didn't escape from someone's yard, as she doesn't show any sign of mistreatment.  Well, someone's loss is certainly our gain.

Thank you again for being so patient with us, and especially thank you for the work you do with these dogs.

Cecilia

cecila2006Cecilia is doing great, I think she is the perfect dog. I take her on walks to the elementary school here and the kids lover her. She has a couple of jackets now and a sweater. She is wearing her pink jacket in one of the pictures. She likes it, it doesn't get in her way and its lined with fleece so its comfortable:)

We are going to take her on Sunday with us to pick up Daisy (Tess). I think it will be fun. I hope things are well with you and thank you so much for letting us adopt Cecilia, she is such a sweetheart!

Chase (Apollo)

chasepuppy3It was great that you called and wonderful to hear Apollo's (AKA Chase) siblings are doing well. We will join the Yahoo group tonight and we will make sure to keep in touch from here on out.

Here are few of our favorite pictures of Apollo and his big Sis Molly!!! They really have bonded and have some silly playful behaviors.

They truly are GREAT!!!

Thanks!!

Daisy

daisy2006Daisy is adjusting really well!  We are kennel training her now...the first night (like Emily said) she cried a lot, but eventually gave in and went to sleep. Last night, she did great...not a peep! The girls just love her and she is such a sweet dog. We've already taught her how to sit and I think she will pick up on other commands quickly. Thanks again for everything! I'll keep you updated. Have a great day!

Chris

Daisy (Jenny)

jenny-daisy2007Bronson told me awhile back that you weren't able to see the pictures he tried to send so I said I would send them and got busy and forgot to but here are some pictures of her afrom the summer and I sent another album also from the last few weeks as well. She is doing great with Bronson!  Here are the pictures of Daisy and PeeWee from the past few trips to the beach! Hope you like them!

Heather Snead

Dallas

dallas2006We were gone for 9 days to Atlanta for the holidays. We took Dallas with us and he is AWESOME! We love him! He is a perfect fit for our family!

We took him in last Thursday for his last round of shots. He is growing! He is up to 18.5 pounds now. I have attached a couple of pictures of you to see!

Thank you again for helping us find such a wonderful new family member!

Eddie

eddie_home2I just wanted to give you a little update on Eddie. He is doing so good! We had a little scare last weekend while we were camping, I think he got stung by a bee and so we had to make a trip to the Emergency Pet Hospital, but he made a full recovery, and is back to normal now. He has gained almost 4 lbs since he came to live with us! He is a great eater, and loves to play with all his dog friends, and, of course, he LOVES to eat sticks! I attached a recent picture.  Hope all is well!

Ernie

ernie2006I just wanted to write and Thank you for allowing us to adopt Ernie, he is a treasure and everything and more that you said he was. My husband and I are delighted that he is a member of our family. I personally think he was my husband in a past life as he just sits sometimes and stares at me, and at nite before sleep he is cuddled close to me with his head on my chest, up by my neck.

Our other dog Lucy is so happy now , she must have stayed depressed the past 2 years since her good buddie lacy died but she is a new dog today , plays like a pup and is teaching Ernie the ropes and matters

We will try to be at the fund raiser with our family I am sending a pic of Ernie as he waits for me to come into the garage and getting some love from Bill.

Thanks again
Bill and Dawn Mitchell

Greta

greta2006WE LOVE GRETA!  She is such a fabulous dog!  She went to the vet yesterday and got a clean bill of health.  While there we ran into a shelter volunteer from the Williamson County Humane Society.  It shocked us when we heard someone saying “Greta, Greta is that you?”  She got a little emotional when she was talking to us.  She went on and on about how wonderful Greta was and how happy she was that she found a family.  She was also very happy that we had children.  Things are working out better than we ever imagined.  Oh, and we had a trainer out last Sunday.  Greta responded very well.  It seems she has already receive some training along the way or she is just really smart.

Thank you!

Heidi

heidi2006I hope you have a very nice Christmas.  Austin dog is doing so great, and I admire you for making it all happen.  So many happy dogs finding homes.

Best wishes for the holidays to the whole Martin pack.  Heidi just graduated from Agility II last Sat, here's a pic of us on our last run!  She did great, and got along great with the new dogs she met.

Terrie

Jessie (Prissy)

prissy-jessi2007I wanted to give you an update on Prissy, our little mini-Aussie/Chihuahua mix we got from one of your foster homes back in April. She came from the Gonzales shelter, her leg had been broken in 3 places and the Gonzales shelter performed surgery on her. I think they basically put muscle around the breaks in her leg.

The posting on your site said that she would probably have a very noticeable limp for the rest of her life. Well I am happy to report that she did have a limp for about 2 months but she doesn't anymore. We have 3 other dogs, one of them being a very active Border Collie rescue we got in Montana when we lived there.

We renamed Prissy to Jessi, and I am very happy to tell you that Skye (our Border Collie) was exactly what Jessi needed, and Jessi is exactly what Skye needed. Skye has had issues with separation anxiety and has gotten into some trouble over the years, this has pretty much stopped since we brought Jessi home. They play very rough and I think Skye is just too tired nowadays to get into trouble as a result.

With Jessi, all of the active play has strengthened her bad leg muscles up and the atrophy that was there when we first got her is all but gone.

I have attached a picture with her and one of her Christmas presents, you can see what a beauty she has turned into.

Thank you for our little angel!

Happy Holidays,
Scott and Laurie Jacobson

Kaanacha (Jake)

jakegsd1Kaanacha (Jake) is full of energy, eating well, learned to climb stairs (he was initially hesitant to climb stairs), is crazy about people and getting their full attention, and a little bit on the jealous side.  As I mentioned earlier a lot of puppy in him.  He was in the crate on the first night here, but since then he roams free and happy.

Here is a photo of him bonding with his new mom and sister Simran.

Like I said... he is home.

--  Cheers, Nash

Loki

loki1Here are my two favorite pictures of Loki. He is possibly the silliest dog alive. We were a little worried initially because he was so shy, but after a couple days he showed his true colors as a complete clown. Loki is very happy and energetic, and while still shy of strangers, he's a great companion and makes up laugh daily.  Hope this is what you need! Looking forward to seeing his glamor shot on your website.

Mia

mia2006Sorry I haven't written sooner... but I saw the newsletter and just wanted to give you some feedback on little Mia! She's doing just wonderful. Her personality is coming out more and more each day. She loves snuggling up with us in bed. She prefers indoors but loves laying in the sun outside too. She's a pretty good listener and no big problems with chewing or anything. Beto keeps her occupied. He is just thrilled to have her around. They play tug of war with their rope and they follow each other around making sure they know what the other is doing at all times! (I've attached a picture of them snoozing on the couch). Mia has been a great addition to our family.

Thanks,
Maria

Milo

milo2006Milo is turning into a fine young man, he's very healthy, smart, talented, charming, well behaved, sweet, lovable and he socializes well with both people and dogs. I couldn't have dreamed of a better dog.

Thanks so much.

Kakii

Odie

odie2007Hi there!  I thought you might enjoy seeing a few pictures of Odie!  He has been wonderful and is enjoying his new home.

Thanks so much!  Looking forward to hearing from you.

Pearl

pearl2007Megan and I would like to introduce you to the newest member of our family.  Meet Pearl, she is a 1yr old Blue Heeler.  She weighs 30lbs and is really smart!  We finally got to bring her home last night.  We adopted her from Austin Dog Rescue.  She is getting along with Mika great, all they do is play, constant.  She seems to be adjusting well so far, she is even starting to get the hang of the doggie door already.

Pearl was rescued from Town Lake Animal Shelter by Austin Dog Rescue (Thank you so much to Joyce and Laurie) just before she was to be put to sleep.  Please read her story below.  The article does not mention (and you may notice in the photos) that when the good Samaritan found Pearl, she had a chain embedded into her neck.  It required surgery to remove it leaving a pretty bad scar.  However, she is healing great and you definitely can't tell by her attitude the horrible conditions that she will never have to endure again!

Thank you,
Jason, Megan, Pearl & Mika!

Penelope (Penny)

penelope_1

I wanted to send an update and some pictures of Penny (Penelope).

She is the absolute best!  I've had her for just over a year now, and I'm continually reminded and convinced she and I were meant for each other.  She loooooves playing fetch, fetch and more fetch, going to the dog park, swimming in the lake, going to the farm... basically anything that
involves playing and running outside!  She also knows when it's time to relax, as you'll see from the picture of her lounging in her favorite chair. It's times like these that she loves to be a lap dog and cover you with as many kisses as you'll allow (and sneak some in even when you've had enough).
I know Penny and I will spend many HAPPY years together, and I just want to say THANK YOU to ADR for saving her, and bringing us together.  You guys truly provide an invaluable service.

Love and Licks from Penny!

Flynn

Piper (Sugar)

sugar2006I just wanted to fill you in on our first full day and night with Lola's pup. "Sugar" is now called "Piper" and she is so unbelievable smart, confident, curious, affectionate, vocal. I think we have a perfect match.

Mike and I are completely enamored with her and she seems to be 100% comfortable with us. We had a big day yesterday- took her directly to Petco to get supplies and she had a ball in the store. She and Mike are instant buddies. She also pottied outside after she let us know she had to go while we were in the store. She has not pottied in the house at all either. She had a bath in the kitchen sink and really loved it. There is no doubt in my mind that she'll be a water dog. We are as happy as we can be. You and the other volunteers can put a big check mark by this adoption. Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
Gina

Rex & Ruthie

rex-ruthie2007Hi Joyce!  I just wanted you to know that Rex and RuRu (Ruthie) are adjusting very well.  We are so happy that they are now part of our family.  It started off a little rough.  Rex was scratched in the eye by our cat just a few hours after we brought them home on Saturday.  He didn't seem to mind, but I took him to the vet anyway.  They did a stain on his eye and gave him an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory shot.  We are also putting medicine in his eye for 2 weeks - poor guy!  He's a trooper though and the vet said he will be just fine.  Our vet recommended that we call him "Gene" for Gene Simmons - that tongue of his!!  :)

I just wanted to let you know that all is well.  I also wanted to thank you and Austin Dog for helping us find these 2 wonderful babies!  We are so lucky!  Our dog Mollie is also very excited to have 2 new best friends!

Thanks again and have a great week!
Aislynn Trubee

Roxie (Maxine)

maxine_roxie2007Roxie (formerly Maxine) and I won't be able to make it, we'll be in Houston shooting a feature film, but I wanted to send a couple of pics of us and her new home (attached).  I'm so absolutely in love with her!!!!

Thanks and happy 1st year!

Leah Alter

Tucker

tucker2007I wanted to give you an update on Tucker and also had a question for you.  Tucker is doing great, he is learning commands and walks on a lead properly.  I've got him using his best manners most of the time and he's favorite thing is being in the same room with us.  Attached is a picture for you as well.

The question I had is about Home Again.  We just had Addy chipped and wanted to add her to the same account as Tucker's, but they don't show his chip as being registered.  Is it possible that his chip got registered with you, and not moved over to us?

Thanks, Ed Golden

Tyson

tyson2006Just thought you might want to see how Tyson is doing. Here are some pics of him. He's getting BIG!!!

Once again Thanks,
Kevin & Maribel

Winston

winston-kingston2007I got the email about the 1 year anniversary party on the 16th, however I will be out of town that weekend.  So, since yall won't be able to see Kingston, I thought you might enjoy these pics of him.  He's doing great after several issues.  He is now about 80-90% recovered from acl repair surgery.  He's quite the trooper.  Hopefully there will be another event I can bring Kingston to.

Take care,
Travis & Kingston
