BUDDY
Buddy, a Lab or Black Mouth Cur/Louisiana Catahoula mix, was rescued by Austin Dog Rescue when they saw his loving nature in spite of his injuries at the hand of some other humans. He had been hit by buckshot and still had pellets in his ears, scars on his face, and was apparently hit on the head with a hard object which left a dent in his skull. Also, his left eye was permanently damaged, but ADR had him examined and Buddy still has sight in his eye though it needs daily medication and care. ADR said he “has a heart is as big as Texas and a temperament that is loving and loyal,” and we are thankful ADR recognized his sweet character.
As an older dog (probably age 5 or so when rescued), Buddy is so mellow and easy-going, but he does get excited when it’s time to go for a walk or ride. We walk every morning and later to fetch the mail, and our neighborhood walking friends are so impressed with his manners. And, he gets along well with our two adopted cats. He is such a gentleman and has never had any accident in the house or been destructive in any way – he just wants to please us all the time.
Buddy is a superb addition to our home and has fit right in – I can’t imagine not having his special personality in our lives. I am so grateful to Austin Dog Rescue for their ability to see the loving and giving nature of older dogs like Our Sweet Buddy. How lucky we are! (all of us!)
ROSIE
Rosie is between 8-10 years old and I rescued her from an abusive home. She was initially a very high-strung dog, but she has become calm and demure. She has also become very loving and affectionate and loves snuggling up to me. Though she enjoys her walks, sometimes when I take my other dog Cosmo walking, Rosie doesn’t want to go and is happy just to stay home and take a nap. She is also very well-trained, and will use a potty pad indoors. She has come a long way since I rescued her and has become warm and friendly towards strangers.

SCHOONER
I rescued Schooner, a twelve year old lab, from a kill shelter. He has old man teeth, old man bones, and old man muscles, but his heart is the size of a puppy’s. He’s sweet, well-behaved and perhaps most importantly, very grateful. His previous owner dropped him off at a kill shelter and said, “I get a new dog every twelve years.” My husband and I felt like we owed it to him to see that what time he has left is the best time of his life. I hope we have him for a long while. We love him already!

DEUCEY
Deucey is doing great.. He's been with us for just 2 weeks now and while we're still getting to know each other, he's fitting right into our family. At first we had a couple of days of adjustment getting our sleep schedules down, but all seems to be well now. Deucey loves to go for walks and we've mostly been able to get in two of them each day. He loves to sit with us watching TV, go for rides, and even hang out at our business so that he doesn't spend too much time at home by himself.
While a bit shy at first, Deucey is very good when meeting new people and especially enjoyed spending time with our grandchildren. He's not big on playing with toys, but we're hoping to introduce him to catching a Frisbee in the back yard. We'll see if we can teach an old dog new tricks.....
Austin Dog Rescue has been great to work with. We believe that their attention to detail throughout the adoption process ensured that there were no surprises in terms of health, behavior, or compatibility. As seniors, just about the same age as Deucey, we appreciate the fact that he is house trained and very laid back. Thanks to both Morgan and Joyce!
